Some time ago, I attended a retreat. I was given a ball of clay, blindfolded, and given one word of instruction: Create. It was love at first (un) sight! Soon after, in an old canning shed-turned studio, I spent my first days doing clay figurative work, all by trial and error, with a couple of used books as my guide.
I try to blend my "professional" background (counseling, social work, and yoga) into the vision and focus I bring to my art. I find special inspiration in the stories and traditions of our mountain elders, both those I have met through work, and my own ancestors. In addition to studio art, I spent over five years with TRAC, teaching creative movement to preschoolers.
Of late, travel has become my muse. Peru, Morocco, Belize, Scotland, Spain. The people, the stories, the beauty of each unfolding moment. To go, with only a backpack, each day an invitation to simplicity, renewal, re-birth. Soon I head to Kenya, to teach art and creative movement to orphaned children.
