Living on 10 acres on a dirt road in a dry county inspires my work. I have been a potter for over 30 years and just don't know any better. I have worked with electric kilns for most of my potting career, but when my genius artist husband, John Richards, and I moved to the hills of North Carolina I was able to have a gas fired kiln which was built by Tracy Dotson of Penland. This has allowed me to use the palette of blues and greens I have always loved with the addition of the warm tones of soft orange that gas firing gives the work. At this stage I am also experimenting with subdued pinks and and a more vivid color of turquoise. The possibilities are boundless and opening the kiln is always a treat. I'm a graduate of UNC-G and a former student of Charles Counts.
