Carol Bailey feels that paintings are often more reflective of who the artist is on the inside than the appearance of the subject studied--the view on the outside.
"I tend to paint intuitively, often not sure what a painting is about until long after it's completed. It tends to be a process of continued learning about myself--of questioning why and how it evolved. My hope is to convey my sense of wonder at how light reveals color and form. Through the utilization of contrast, color unity, pattern and disappearing / reappearing edges, I focus intently on developing a composition that celebrates the real surface of the planet earth."
She feels that her work revolves around light and how it reflects, refracts, and passes in, around and through objects, space and time. "Art is an interaction between itself and the viewer at the specific time and place."
Carol earned both her B.F.A. and M.A. degrees from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She served 22 years as a Studio Art teacher in public schools in Ohio. She served 20 years as the Art Department Chair at a large comprehensive high school where she taught drawing, painting, design, art metals and Advanced Placement Studio Art.
She moved to this area of N.C. upon retirement, attracted by the climate, beautiful scenery, Appalachian culture, arts community and proximity to Asheville and Boone. |
