Artist Statement:
I’m a fiber artist, recently relocated to the mountains of western North Carolina from the Charlotte area. My work is created by needling wisps of wool roving to a handmade felt “canvas.” This medium blends a previous love of painting and pastels with my more current work in soft-sculpture and felting.

My “paintings” are made from hand-dyed animal and plant fibers. The wisps of roving are applied in layers and needled to the felt backing with a small barbed needle. The “painting” builds from the base very slowly, so that the scene takes form while I am working. The magic of the blended fibers often leads me to something much different than I originally intended.

I am deeply inspired by myths and legends. My recent series of eight fiber “paintings” are scenes from fairytales. Currently, I am working on a new series titled “Ladies in Waiting.”
