Artist Statement:
Love of nature, both human and non-human, seems to inspire my work more and more. My mixed media wall hangings tell stories about the way people see themselves and the world, often with irony and humor. Living in the mountains, I am aware daily of how closely we share our world with the plants and animals around us. Combining embossed metal with fabric enables me to embellish my stories with more detail. I also create beautiful purses in silk. These are often inspired by nature. My husband Tim Clark makes the straps for each purse using the ancient Japanese craft of kumihimo, a technique of interweaving hundreds of silk threads by hand using bobbins and a wooden braiding loom called a takadai. Both of us enjoy working with details. It takes patience, can be frustrating but offers such satisfying results. All our work is one-of-a-kind.
