Nature Center seeks artists donations

Nature Center seeks artists donations. We are soliciting the donation of small pieces from local artists that are inspired by our local flora and fauna, especially species featured at the Nature Center. All proceeds will go to the Friends of the Nature Center and support all the projects we do there. If you know an artist who would be willing to donate, please pass along this information! Taste of the Blue Ridge

Deadline Sept 10: 2010 Taste of the Blue Ridge seeks artists. Event is a fundraiser for the United Way and has seen rapid growth in attendance over the past two years. Projected attendance is 300+ who will have the opportunity to sample food and beverages from area restaurants and farmers. Additional activities include cooking demonstrations, local music and tablescapes. 2010 event will be held on Mon, Sept 13, 5:30-8:30pm at the Cross Street Building in Spruce Pine. CMLit Fest Seeks Volunteers

Volunteers needed. If you have an hour to spare the weekend of the Carolina Mountains Literary Festival, please email Mike Hoskins at terrellhouse@hotmail.com and let him know. Mostly what are needed are session coordinators. Go to www.cmlitfest.org click on 2010 Authors, then read about some of the authors and what they’ll be presenting. Tell Mike which author(s) you’d like to coordinate for, and he’ll match you up, and tell you what’s involved.

Parkway Playhouse Workshop

Tues, Sept 14-Nov 2: The Parkway Playhouse has announced that it will be holding classes for area youth who are interested in the performing arts.
“The Parkway Playhouse is a teaching theatre and we are looking to create more opportunities for people to learn and explore. Whether students are interested in persuing the performing arts professionally or not the creative skills that go into performing are skills that are highly desirable in any business sector” commented Parkway Playhouse Producing Artistic Director Andrew Gall.
Sessions for students aged 6-10 meet from 4 to 5pm/tuition-$80.00. Sessions for students aged 11-18 meet from 5:15-6:45pm/tuition-$100. Students will be immersed in games and exercises designed to help them develop as performers and all students will get experience in singing, dancing, and acting. The program is being coordinated by Mary Katherine Smith, who has worked at the Parkway Playhouse and has extensive experience in teaching the performing arts to young children.
