Blue Ridge Fine Arts Guild Meeting Aug 18


Note to Yancey and Mitchell counties residents:  You might be interested in knowing that a Fine Arts Guild (Blue Ridge Fine Arts Guild, BRAG) has been formed. Next meeting is August 18, 6:30pm, at the Burnsville Town Center, Burnsville, South Main Street.

Gates Studio August Workshop


The  Gates Studio August Workshop, scheduled for August 15-17, 2008, is for watercolor or oil painters. Hope you can come. I will be demonstrating and instructing in both mediums

Schedule is 9:00am-4:00pm, Friday and Saturday, and 9:00am-early afternoon on Sunday, allowing out of town artists to get an early start home.  Cost is $200 for instruction only, and $325 for instruction with lodging.  Class is limited to 7-8 so register early. A $40 non-refundable deposit will reserve your space

“Space Shifters: Mountain Sculptors 2008″


“Space Shifters: Mountain Sculptors 2008″ at Upstairs [artspace] www.upstairsartspace.org in Tryon, NC will feature 78 works by 20 members of Mountain Sculptors. The exhibition is August 29 through October 4 during regular gallery hours: Tuesday through Saturday, 11 to 5. The opening reception is 5-8pm Saturday, August 30. A Walk and Talk Tour begins at 2pm Sunday, September 14. Gallery phone is 828-859-2828. Mountain Sculptors is an association of artists who create three-dimensional work in Western North Carolina: www.mountainsculptors.org. The exhibition will include works by Yancey County sculptors Barron Brown, John Richards, Ila Seltzer, and Martin Webster.

Public Artwork: Bakersville - Request for Applications


Open Call for Submissions from artists residing in Mitchell and Yancey counties.  The Bakersville Creekwalk Arts Festival is awarding $2000 for a piece of functional sculpture to be displayed, with an information plaque about artist, on the Bakersville Creekwalk.  The sculpture will be a public display of art seen by many locals and visitors to the area alike.  Deadline for submission is Sept 1, 2008. Gates County High School: Public Artwork


The North Carolina Arts Council has awarded a grant to Gates County High School to contract with an artist to create a permanent public artwork or art enhancement in the school facility or on campus as part of our SPARC (School/Public Art Collaboration Projects). Attached is a call for artists (Request for Qualifications) for this project. Please share with any artists in your region. Tryon Arts and Crafts Organization

Tryon Painters and Sculptors invite all artists over the age of eighteen to participate in the 11th Biennial Western North Carolina Juried Art Exhibit. This important event will be held September 5 through October 2 at the Tryon Fine Arts Center. Award will be given for first, second and third place in the amounts of $1000, $500, and $250. Call for Artists: Visual Arts Exchange: This annual juried exhibition is VAE’s most anticipated of the year, attracting artists from across the region to compete for inclusion and prizes. All works featured in this exhibition have never been exhibited anywhere before and represent a cross section of the newest, most innovative work in the state.
