Pulp to Paper Weekend Papermaking Workshop


Sat-Sun, Feb 13-14, 9 to 5 pm: Pulp to Paper, a weekend papermaking class for the novice and those with some previous experience. You’ll learn techniques for forming sheets of handmade paper and how handmade papers are used in artwork, book arts, printmaking, cards and envelopes. Maffett. Learn how to layer negative shapes to get more depth in your paintings; lose some of the hard negative edges to keep things loose and paint a landscape from foreground to the background.

Words of Love Contest

Betsy Worden Memorial Artist Residency Opening


The Arts & Culture Alliance is pleased to announce availability of the next Betsy Worden Memorial Artist Residency at the Emporium Center, 100 S Gay St in downtown Knoxville.  Deadline for receipt of application is Fri, March 19. Available to college students and other young and emerging artists. Resident artist is required to occupy the studio and be present to show new work each First Fri of the month, spend a significant amount of time creating work in the Emporium studio, and help hang monthly changing exhibits in the Emporium galleries if necessary. Clay Residency Opening at Energy Xchange. Apply as soon as possible. Applications reviewed at months’ end until slot is filled. The monthly rent is $460 for glass and $230 for clay.  The residency is for up to three years with annual renewals. Chatham Arts Gallery Accepting New Artists

Randall Jarrell Poetry Competition


The Randall Jarrell Poetry Competition accepts one-poem submissions. The contest awards the winner publication in the Crucible literary journal and $200. Questions may be directed to Terry Kennedy at tlkenned@uncg.edu. Deadline: Feb 15.

Doris Betts Fiction Prize


The Doris Betts Fiction Prize awards the first-prize winner $250 and publication in the North Carolina Literary Review. Finalists will be considered for publication in the NCLR.
