ArtsCentered Student Art Exhibition
January 12 - February 16, 2008
The Toe River Arts Council (TRAC), at 269 Oak Avenue, Spruce Pine, offers the public a rare glimpse into the creative process with an exhibition of works made by students of ARTsCENTERed. Located in nearby Bakersville, the center is an independently owned education facility operating in conjunction with Mayland Community College to provide the residents of Mitchell, Avery, and Yancey Counties with the opportunity to study crafts, especially those with historic significance to the region.
The five-week show presents works in pottery at the wheel, clay sculpture, basketry, watercolor, journal making, collage, papermaking and mixed media. It opens Saturday, January 12. The reception, public invited, is scheduled for Friday, January 18, from 5-7 pm, and will feature extraordinary catering by the talented show participants themselves, beverages, and musical entertainment by Alan Tinney. Presentation of awards, many offered by Cheap Joe’s Art Supply, Boone, NC, will take place at the reception.
ARTsCENTERed’s emphasis is on the joy of art combined with the learning process. Many students have developed proficiency in an area of study. Some operate private studios and now enjoy success with the craft show circuit, juried exhibitions, gallery affiliations, and participate in the area’s exciting TRAC Studio Tours, held twice a year. Some of the works exhibited will be available for sale with a percentage of the proceeds going to support TRAC.
