The Summer of Glass 2018 is a community/region wide celebration of glass and the rich history of glassmaking in Western North Carolina. It is a united effort of artists and individuals, galleries and businesses, museums and nonprofits, and community and cultural leaders who have all come together in a collaborative effort to highlight both the historical and contemporary context of glass and its talented artists in Western North Carolina.

In September of 2017 the Biltmore Estate announced its plans to host an exhibition of Dale Chihuly’s glass sculptures on the estate grounds from May 17–October  7, 2018.  In November, NC Glass Center gathered arts leaders in a round table forum to set sights on creating a six-month long celebration of glass. This partnership has lead to the planning and implementation of WNC glass history and global glass impact exhibits, tours, events, and other special glass programs from May–October.
